On Wednesday City of Laredo District VI Council Member Charlie San Miguel was joined by Eagle Scout candidate Reet Pandya and his family, Eagle Scout Board Review Chairman Bill Swisher, United Day School Boy Scout Troop 201 Scout Master Randy Blair and representatives from Keep Laredo Beautiful, Environmental Services and Parks & Recreation Department to help Reet unveil his mural of native cactus he painted along one of the drainage walls at North Central Park. His intent was to Keep Laredo Beautiful through ‘Art in the Park.’
When asked why he wanted to paint the mural, Reet responded immediately: “It’s what I like to do; I love to paint. I also thought it would be really nice to paint a mural and to remove the graffiti.”
Reet, who is 14 years, will be going into the 9th grade at Fessenden School in Boston. He is a part of Troop 201, which is part of United Day School. He has been in Scouting since he was in 1st grade.
“I’m so proud of the many Eagle Scouts who choose to beautify North Central Park with their projects,” said Cm. San Miguel. T”his project by Reet will not only add another element of beauty to the park, but also, it will hopefully deter those who wish to vandalize this park that is enjoyed by so many residents from throughout Laredo.”
