Four Lemurs Named to American Association All-Star Team

Laredo, TX – The American Association has announced the 2014 All-Star teams. The 2014 All-Star game will be played on Tuesday, July 29 at 7:00 p.m. Central time at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, Manitoba and will match a North All-Star team against a South All-Star team with four Laredo Lemurs being named to the South team.
The South team is made up of players from the American Association’s South division teams, the Lincoln Saltdogs and Kansas City T-Bones on the Central division, and the New Jersey Jackals and Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League.
League managers and media members voted on the starting position players. The designated hitter, utility player, backup catcher and pitchers were selected by the teams’ managers- Greg Tagert (Gary SouthShore) for the North team and Kevin Hooper (Wichita) for the South team.
The Laredo Lemurs All-Star representatives are listed below:
Second Base: Travis Denker
Denker is in his first season with the Lemurs, and was named the American Association Player of the Week for the week ending May 25. He is hitting .318 with 11 doubles, a triple and a league leading 18 home runs.
Shortstop: Devin Goodwin
Goodwin is in his third season in the American Association and first with the Lemurs. He is hitting .312 with 12 doubles and 13 home runs while driving in 45.
Outfielder: Nick Van Stratten
Van Stratten is with his first year with the Lemurs after being selected as an American Association Postseason Al-Star last year with the Sioux Falls Canaries. He is hitting .358 with 11 doubles, two triples, three home runs and 23 RBI so far in 2014. He is currently on a 29 game hitting streak.
Pitcher: Tyler Pearson
Tyler is in second year with the Lemurs and has posted a 5-4 record, with a 3.46 ERA, he has 59 strikeouts in 59.2 innings of work.
