LAREDO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection, together with officials from the cities of Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico are teaming up to improve existing signage and to post new signage advising the traveling public of where the Ready Lanes at Lincoln-Juarez Bridge are located as part of a coordinated effort to facilitate traffic flow.

“CBP and our stakeholders at the municipal, federal and consular levels in Laredo and Nuevo Laredo are working together to inform the traveling public where the Ready Lanes are located and also to encourage the public to obtain radio frequency (RFID)-enabled documents so that they can utilize the Ready Lane and facilitate speedier entry into the U.S.,” said Joseph Misenhelter, Port Director, Laredo Port of Entry.

A Ready Lane is a lane designated for the exclusive use of vehicle passengers with RFID-enabled documents such as the U.S. passport card and newer versions of the laser visa and resident alien cards. The lane is equipped with an RFID reader. The approaching passengers hold up their documents and that information is securely read and sent to the screen of the CBP officer at primary, facilitating the inspection process and saving about 20 seconds in processing time per vehicle.

As part of the Ready Lane awareness campaign, beginning in pre-dawn hours on July 24, fresh paint will be re-applied on the lettering advising arriving motorists of the location of the Ready Lane on the Westernmost asphalt lane approaches on both the U.S. and the Mexican sides of Lincoln-Juarez Bridge. The lane will fan out to Ready Lanes that will be further indicated by LED signage above the primary inspection booths.

In addition, signage will be posted in Nuevo Laredo advising motorists of the location of the Ready Lane so that they may begin queuing in the Westernmost lanes on the approaches to the tollbooths. Caminos y Puentes Federales (CAPUFE) is planning to install additional Ready Lane signage within the federal inspection area in Nuevo Laredo.
