Laredo, TX (Webb County) — A thorough search by a Webb County Correctional Officer led to the discovery of heroin intended to make its way into the Webb County jail.
On Tuesday, during intake procedures on inmate Laura Lizzette Rodriguez, the officer noticed the suspect had a suspicious object in her body. A closer look revealed that Rodriguez had tried sneaking in a plastic baggie containing a black square of heroin.
The narcotics were confiscated and Rodriguez is now facing a felony 3rd degree charge for a prohibited substance inside a correctional facility. She was initially taken into custody on two arrest warrants, stemming from a burglary of vehicle and theft charges. The suspect remains at the Webb County jail with no bond.
Sheriff Martin Cuellar thanked the officer for a job well done at maintaining a safe environment for the inmates and civilian personnel. “I applaud the officer for being able to detect the heroin and ensuring it did not make its way into our jail,” said Cuellar.
