(Laredo, TX )  The City of Laredo is once again hosting this year’s annual 4th of July celebration, presented by H-E-B and thanks to partners Guerra Communications, KLDO-Univision and Uni-Trade Stadium, and sponsors Family Chevrolet and Southern Distributing/Miller Lite, this event, which will be held on Friday, July 4, 2014, from 5:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. at Uni-Trade Stadium, 6320 Sinatra Parkway, promises to be a sizzling, patriotic and family-friendly and fun celebration.

“This is the greatest country in the world and the 4th of July is our chance to celebrate our freedom and be thankful for our liberties that were forged 238 years ago,” said City of Laredo Mayor Pro Tempore Esteban Rangel.  “I invite everyone to come out and celebrate America’s birthday.”

Celebrate Independence Day with a definite Laredo flavor; food; entertainment; kiddy activities and tons of music; watermelon and Jell-o eating contests are just part of the events on tap. The highlight of the celebration is a Tejano concert featuring two-time Grammy Award-winning artist David Lee Garza y Los Musicales and ending with an emotional and rousing musical fireworks spectacular.

Thanks to H-E-B, the celebration will feature a special tribute to America’s veterans and current serving military and their immediate families.  Veterans and military are asked to bring their military ID or DD number and head out to the H-E-B booth to receive a gift as a way of saying thanks for their service to the country. Additionally, title sponsor H-E-B is presenting that evening’s fireworks display.

“H-E-B is proud to be the title sponsor of this year’s firework extravaganza,” said Linda Tovar, H-E-B Senior Public Affairs Manager. “We are honored to celebrate this Fourth of July with the City of Laredo, and to pay tribute to the many men and women of our military.”

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the music begins at 5 PM with Guerra DJs spinning the most popular music.  At 6 PM, get ready to welcome Laredo’s own The Jolly Ranchers who will be ready to entertain with a variety of tunes that are sure to please everyone.  At 7 PM, Grupo Masizzo takes to the stage to wow the crowd with their high energy shows.  Of course, a 4th of July celebration would not be complete without a patriotic ceremony that will include a presentation of colors and national anthem performance that will blow everyone away.  Then, at 9 PM, get ready to welcome fan favorites David Lee Garza y Los Musicales.  At 11 PM, the dazzling fireworks show will light up the night sky.  DJ music will continue until 12 AM.  The entrance admission to the event will be FREE for the entire family.

“Guerra Communications is proud to once again partner with the City of Laredo, Uni-Trade Stadium and all of the amazing sponsors who are helping to bring this free 4th of July celebration to Laredo,” said David Gonzalez, Program Director for Big Buck Country 98.1 FM.  “The musical line-up is awesome and the fireworks show promises to be moving and dazzling.  Come out with the whole family and enjoy the music, the food, and the fun.”

While the music is playing, attendees can enjoy multiple activities, including games for kids, or kids at heart, hosted by the City of Laredo Parks & Leisure Services department.  Show your patriotic spirit and enter the watermelon and Jell-O eating contests; various age categories will be available so everyone can have a chance to win those bragging rights.  Kids will enjoy the fun Uni-Trade Stadium kids’ playscapes while parents and drivers can try out the AT&T  Driving & Texting Simulator, which gives people a simulated feel of what happens when texting and driving.  While everyone can also enjoy other sponsor booths, as well, a special call to Laredoans who would like to sell arts and crafts or other games at the stadium are invited to sign up at the Parks & Leisure Department.

“I would like to invite families to come out and honor our Independence Day at this Family Fest by participating as a vendor or just enjoying all the old-fashioned fun of games, music, entertainment, at the event, and of course, all of the great Uni-Trade Stadium food for a fun-filled celebration of our nation’s birthday,” said Mark Schuster, managing partner of Ventura, Uni-Trade Stadium.

Anyone wishing to sign up as a vendor, arts & crafts or games and activities only – no food vendors – can  sign up at the City of Laredo Parks & Leisure Services Administration Office at 2201 Piedra China.  Call 795-2350 for more information.  All vendors will be required to purchase a $20 special event permit.
