TAMIU Lecture on Meditations on Quixote Celebrates Book’s 100th Anniversary

(Laredo, Tx)-Those who would like to delve into Hispanic Studies and the study of Miguel de Cervantes and his literary legacy are invited to a special lecture in Spanish at Texas A&M International University Friday, April 4 at 9 a.m. in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Success Center, room 101.

Dr. Robert Lane Kauffmann, associate professor of Hispanic Studies at Rice University, will lecture in Spanish on José Ortega y Gasset’s Meditaciones del Quijote (Meditations on Quixote) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the book.

 The lecture, sponsored by the TAMIU Office of the President, is free and open to the community.

 Meditaciones del Quijote is the first major book of Ortega y Gasset and has become seminal in Hispanic thought and literary criticism.

At Rice, Dr. Kauffmann teaches the literature, philosophy, and art of Spain, literary translation, Latin American short fiction, and an introduction to the Humanities. 

 He was guest editor and contributor to a special issue of the French Studies journalL’Esprit Créateur (Genres, Passages, Differends: Jean-François Lyotard), and has published articles, chapters, and reviews on modern European and Latin American literature as well as literary theory in journals and collected volumes published in Europe, the United States, Latin America, and Canada.

 His current projects include a study of the modern Spanish essay and an English translation of Eduardo Nicol’sEl problema de la filosofía hispánica  (The Problem of Hispanic Philosophy).
