Judge Cuellar Announces New Morning Court Sessions and Amnesty Week

gavelCourtesy Xochitl Mora,

(Laredo, TX) In order to provide better service to the citizens of Laredo because of the rising and high volume of cases that Municipal Court handles, Judge Rosie Cuellar is now adding a morning court session, in addition to the afternoon court session. Municipal Court initial appearance settings will be either at 9:00 a.m. or at 1:00 p.m., but citizens are advised show up at court at the time that they are scheduled to appear.

The judge also wants to encourage the public to check at the Laredo Municipal Court if they have an outstanding warrant or pending citations, before an arrest may occur. In order for citizens to take care of this matter before an arrest warrant, Omni warrant or Linebarger warrant is issued, Judge Cuellar is offering an amnesty program only from March 17, 2014 through March 28, 2014 in order to allow citizens to clear their outstanding warrants and traffic violations. This includes all cases pending, capias, warrants, capias pro-fine, DPS Omni warrants or Linebarger warrants.

Municipal Court clerks can help the public with any information that they may need. Please call (956) 794-1680 or come by to the court, located at 4610 Maher Avenue, before the Amnesty program goes in effect to find out the total amount of fines. In order to qualify for this program and possibly to be clear of the outstanding debt, citizens must be prepared with at least of half of the amount of the outstanding fine. However, the determination is on a case by case basis.

It is very important that the public take advantage of the amnesty program and check to see if there are outstanding warrants. After the warrant alert, Judge Cuellar will initiate a warrant round up. If residents have not made any arrangements, an arrest warrant will be executed. Thereafter, the police department will be looking for all individuals, regardless of the amount due. Arrest warrants may be issued even for a single violation.

“I advise our citizens to comply with the law to avoid being arrested,” said Judge Cuellar.
