UISD Announces Distinguished Alumni Program

(Laredo, Tx)-In United ISD, learning and success go far. As such, the United Independent School District would like to recognize the success of United I.S.D. Graduates and the foundation that their high school education provided to this success.
Distinguished Alumni Award
Eligibility: A graduate of United I.S.D. who has distinguished him/herself after high school graduation. This individual must have graduated from high school at least five years from the date of nomination. This recognition can be earned through:
Outstanding Service to our country, community, or to others in need: Service can be local—to our community or school district, national, or global (e.g., military service or other humanitarian programs).
Career: the individual has achieved recognition for outstanding contributions to his/her profession or career.
Philanthropy: those who have made significant contributions to help others who are less fortunate or to any worthwhile cause.
Nomination Process: a member of the community or a member of the selection committee may nominate Individuals. The individual making the nomination shall submit details about the individual including the achievements of the individual. The documentation shall include references (either written documentation or personal reference) that can verify the achievement(s).
Selection Process: Nominations must be submitted to the Office of the Superintendent no later than February 3rd of each year. The selection committee shall meet in February to review all nominations received. The District will select up to 10 individuals to receive this recognition each year. Members of the committee shall check references submitted. The committee shall meet at least 6 weeks prior to the recognition program to permit sufficient time to check references and to notify selected individuals of the honor.
Plaque: Each honoree shall receive a plaque in honor of their selection as a Distinguished Alumni. The honoree’s picture will be displayed in various district publications as well as in their respective school’s “Wall of Distinction” with other Distinguished Alumni. In addition, honorees will have an opportunity to speak to students at each of our high schools in an effort to promote post secondary education, career choices, community service, etc.
Selection Committee: The following individuals shall serve on the selection committee:
· An appointed representative of the District
· A representative of a community service organization (e.g. Rotary, Optimist Club, LULAC, etc.)
· A representative of the community-at-large
· A retired District employee who is still active in the community
· The four high school principals
· Counselors from each of the district’s four high schools
· A member of the Superintendent’s Management Team
