(Laredo, Tx)-A former Gold’s Gym employee has been arrested for theft and forgery stemming from an alleged theft for more than $27,000. Gold’s Gym former bookkeeper Raul Alberto Medrano, 33, was arrested on January 16, 2014 and charged with one count of theft, a 3rd degree felony and 49 counts of forgery, a state jail felony.
The events took place between September 2012 and October 2013 when Medrano forged an excessive number of company checks that were payable to and cashed by him. An internal investigation was first conducted by the finance manager that immediately raised a red flag when suspicious transactions were discovered. Medrano’s check register had various pay dates that showed duplicate checks. He also made additional payroll and vendor checks payable to himself. The investigation conducted by law enforcement revealed that 49 checks were forged totaling an amount of $27,785.59.
