Actually, it will be McDonald’s rooftop and they hope to help collect toys, blankets, coats and more for Laredo’s needy
(Laredo, Tx)- Mayor Salinas has been going up on the roofs of area businesses in Laredo for the past 22 years, collecting toys, food, money and other such for the neediest in our community, because he is all for helping the community. This 23rd year will be no different as Mayor Salinas joins his friend from Guerra Communications, DJ Pete “The Heat” Martinez and McDonald’s own Mike Marasco – come rain, snow, sleet, or sun – to camp out on the rooftop of McDonald’s, located at 7701 McPherson, at the corner of Del Mar, starting today at 3 PM and coming down at 4 PM on Thursday, December 12, all to help collect toys for needy children in the community, as well as blankets, coats, scarves, slippers, gift card donations and other such items for Laredo’s needy and the elderly. All items will be donated to Toys for Tejanitos and local non-profit organizations that assist the needy in our community.
“During these tough times, it is more important than ever to give to those less fortunate than us,” said Mayor Salinas. “Thanks to our sponsors and partners, this will already be a great initiative, but I know that with the community’s support, this rooftop collection drive will be very successful, especially as it’s my 23rd year of doing this for the less fortunate.”
Aside from that warm, fuzzy good feeling one will get from donating to this worthy cause, a free refreshment, either a medium soft drink, tea, or coffee, courtesy of McDonald’s, will be given to each person who stops in and donates toys, blankets, coats or other new items people would like to donate. Additionally, while Mayor, Martinez, and Marasco will be camped out at the McPherson and Del Mar location, all 17 McDonald’s are participating in this toy drive, so people can stop in and drop off their toys and other such items at all 17 McDonald’s locations here in Laredo. The free drink offer will also be extended at all 17 locations. And, the famous Z-93 sleigh will be parked in front of the restaurant, broadcasting updates throughout the three day period.
“McDonald’s is so proud to be a part of this city-wide toy drive, to help needy children in our community during this magical time of year,” said Marasco. “I encourage everyone to be a part of this great opportunity to make a child happy.”
Salinas recalls the lack of toys, food, money and other such necessities as a child growing up, which is why he has undertaken this initiative for the past 22 years.
