(Laredo, Tx)-UISD Police Department is pleased to announce the winner for the “name the mascot contest.” The contest was a district-wide initiative for elementary schools grades kinder through 3rd. The Administrative Police Team worked eagerly for six months to design the new mascot and a committee comprised of UISD police officers has selected the winner. Contest winner, Meah Ojeda, 2nd grade student of Colonel Santos Benavides along with her class received a visit from the police mascot.
Chief Camarillo and Officers of UISD Police revealed the name of the mascot and awarded Meah with a certificate and her mascot-coloring project. Her fellow classmates were treated to some cookies and punch. “I chose the name SAFETY SAM, because he will protect us from harm, said Meah Ojeda.” The United ISD Police Department continues to stay proactive by aiding in the development and implementation of a well-defined plan to promote discipline and safety while preventing drugs and violence on our campuses.
