Representative Richard Peña Raymond Named Fighter for Free Enterprise

AUSTIN, TX— The Texas Association of Business has released its report card for the 83
rd Legislative Session and has named Representative Richard Peña Raymond a Fighter for Free Enterprise. Rep. Raymond scored an 87 percent out of a possible 100 percent.

“We applaud Rep. Raymond for his business friendly votes this past session,”said TAB President and CEO Bill Hammond. “Supporting legislation that helps Texas businesses makes Texas a better place to move and grow your business, and that helps everyone. It means more jobs and a stronger economy. Rep. Raymond knows that, and his support means Texas will stay at the top for jobs and economic growth.”

“We should do all we can to build our economy and create good paying jobs, in Laredo and Texas. I believe my record shows I am committed to that goal,” said Rep. Raymond.

Rep. Raymond represents District 42, which is entirely in the city of Laredo. Rep. Raymond chairs the House Human Services Committee and is a member of the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee and the Rules and Resolutions Committee.

Before becoming Chairman of the Human Services Committee, Raymond served several terms on the Appropriations Committee, including as Vice Chairman. (Raymond has served on the Appropriations Committee under three different Speakers of the House.)

Raymond has also served on the Economic Development Committee, Licensing Committee, the Energy Committee, Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, Border and Intergovernmental Affairs and the Local and Consent Calendars Committee.

Raymond has made economic development, public and higher education, transportation, water, health care and Border Security priority issues during his tenure.

Raymond was born in Alice, Texas, in Jim Wells County and raised in Benavides, Texas. A graduate of Benavides High School, he attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in government with a minor in history. He also earned a J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law. Richard and his wife, Michelle, live with their three children in Laredo.
