The third annual Agua es Vida Art Competition, sponsored by the  Rio
Grande International Study Center (R.I.S.C.) and The Laredo Center for the
Arts, was held on October 11 at the Laredo Center for the Arts.

A trio of Alexander High School artists (sophomores Araceli Reyes, Yulissa Ibarra and
Cindy Ibarra, a junior), won in the Best of Show category for their triptych
acrylic painting called Nuestro Rio Nuestra Vida; Our River, Our Life.

Atriptych painting is composed of three separate visuals panels that
(together) convey a message. The win was accompanied by a check in the
amount of $200.00. Proceeds will used to purchase instructional materials
for the Alexander High School Art Department.

The award winning artwork will be employed as the Logo for the Rio Grande International Study Center’s 20th
Anniversary next year. The contest is part of Dia del Rio, an annual event
that serves to bring awareness to the Rio Grande, which is our city’s source
of water and life.
