LPD Explorers Looking for New Recruits Who May One Day Aspire to a Law Enforcement Career

(Laredo, Tx)- The Laredo Police Department will be accepting applications for its’ Explorer Program this coming Sunday, September 1, 2013 from 9 a.m. to Noon in the lobby of the main police station located at 4712 Maher Avenue.  Registration is open both male & females between the ages of 15-19. 

 Applicants must:

  • complete a written application
  • pass a background investigation
  • pass an interview
  • be attending and passing all classes in high school or
  • be enrolled, at a minimum, as a part time college student
  • be able to attend meetings every Sunday
  • comply with departmental standards for personal appearance, physical agility, and conduct

 

 This is NOT a “boot camp” style program and is not intended for at risk kids.  The program is intended for young men and women with an interest in law enforcement career.  Explorers receive class room and hands-on training in different areas of police work from law enforcement professionals.  Applicants must pass a background check, interview and probationary period before starting their formal training.  This is a year round program and members are required to attend meetings every Sunday.  In addition participants are required to participate in various community service and fundraising events throughout the year.
