Palomo takes oath of office as new LISD Police Chief

(Laredo, Tx)-Laredo Independent School District Police Chief, Richard B. Palomo took the oath of office during a swearing in ceremony today in the LISD Amber Yeary Board Room.
Webb Count Court at Law Judge, the Honorable Jesus Garza administered the oath. Palomo’s badge was pinned by his wife, Rebecca.
Palomo was appointed to serve as the district’s new Chief of Police by the LISD Board of Trustees during the June board of trustees meeting.
“Mr. Palomo possesses the experience, knowledge, and leadership skills necessary to effectively serve the staff and children of Laredo ISD,” said Dr. Marcus Nelson, LISD Superintendent. “He will become an important part of the LISD family, while having a positive impact on student discipline.”
The LISD Police Department currently has 24 certified peace officers, 74 security guards, three sergeants, one investigator and one lieutenant. The department also includes a canine unit, bike patrol, and a gang intervention unit.
Palomo brings more than 25 years of law enforcement to the district. Prior to becoming Police Chief, he served as police chief at Southside Independent School District in San Antonio, where he supervised various units within the police department including Patrol, Gang and Campus Operations.
Palomo, has served in the U.S. Army and Navy with honor and distinction. He is currently a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve, and holds the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and is a facilitator for the Navy’s Enlisted Leadership Program.
Chief Palomo earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from San Antonio College, a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree from Southwest Texas State University, and a Master’s of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Texas State University.
