(Laredo, Tx)-The Laredo Independent School District Police Department will be conducting mock lockdown safety drills as a training exercise in emergency and crisis procedures. District security officials will be performing the training exercises at four campuses on Thursday, August 1.
The LISD Police Department will conduct the mock drills at the Early College High School from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; Cigarroa Middle School from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Memorial Middle School from 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and at Gallego Elementary School 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The exercise will serve as a model for LISD to evaluate district safety procedures. Members of the Nixon High School Drama Club and Golden Spurs will participate in each of the scenarios. The mock drill at the Early College High School is being conducted in cooperation with the Texas A&M International University Police Department.
The training exercises are designed to teach appropriate responses for potential threats inside the campuses. The drills also allow the staff to identify weaknesses in emergency preparations.
“The main objective with these drills is to ensure a safe environment conducive for learning for all of our students, staff, and visitors,” said LISD Crisis Management Officer, Victor Mora. “The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority.”
During the exercises each campus will close the gates and doors briefly. All visitors will remain outside the school gates until the drill has been completed.
