Laredo, Texas – Thanks to the generosity of nationally known transportation company, C.R. England, Inc., and other transportation industry partners, students of the United Independent School District will be ready to start off the new school year on the right track! That’s because the companies joined together to donate 600 backpacks, each with a voucher to purchase school supplies.
The items were given out July 25 at the Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex Auditorium. The students were delighted to receive a brand new backpack, and the parents were equally overjoyed to have a voucher to buy their child the supplies for the new school year.
This is the third year in a row that C.R. England has led the donation of the much needed school items. It was also their efforts who encouraged other local businesses to consider helping local students.
“As responsible corporate citizens, it is important to set the example and give back to a community that has been so supportive of our industry,” said David Akers, C.R. England President – Mexico at the press conference announcement. “This donation directly benefits young students in the community and their families. Our hope is to encourage other businesses to think of how they can make a difference for their community” continued Akers.
UISD Board Vice-President Juan Roberto Ramirez thanked the various companies for their support of students. “This donation of backpacks and school supply vouchers greatly helps our students and it places emphasis on education. These sponsors want to see our students succeed with the “tools” they have donated to them.”
The business donors received a small token of appreciation by the students and were thanked for making a big difference.
