City of Laredo Health Dept. Celebrates National Women’s Health Week

Laredo, TX— The City of Laredo Health Department, in support of women’s health, is announcing “National Women’s Health Week,” a nationwide initiative that empowers women to take small, manageable steps for longer, healthier, happier lives.

During the week of May 12 thru May 18, women are encouraged to visit a health care professional to receive regular checkups and preventive screenings; get active; eat healthy, pay attention to their mental health, including managing stress and getting enough sleep, and avoid unhealthy behaviors, such as smoking and not wearing a seatbelt or a bicycle helmet.

“National Women’s Health Week is important because it encourages women to make time for their health,” says Dr. Hector F. Gonzalez, Director of Health for the City of Laredo. Women are often the caregivers for their families and as a result, forget to make their own health a priority. With National Women’s Health Week, we remind women that they, too, need to visit the doctor, make sure their screenings are up-to-date, get active and just take time for their health.”

Being healthy starts with taking control, and during National Women’s Health Week, we encourage women to sit down with their doctor or health care provider and talk about what they can do to take control of their health.  Health is the best gift women can give themselves – or their loved ones.
