United Middle School Student Wins Top Honors in STEM Writing Contest

(Laredo, Tx)-United Middle School 7th grade student Nicholas Garza was the winner of the 7th grade Sci-Fi Writing Contest sponsored by Rice University ‘s STEMscopes Program. STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. His story was entitled “Project Sunburn” which focused on a post-apocalyptic world. He chose a telescope as his prize. The writing contest is held to help students prepare for the writing STAAR tests in a fun and creative way. Garza’s story was selected from hundreds of entries in the State. Garza is pictured with his teacher Dora Garcia.
