TAMIU Cheerleaders Place First, Advance to Finals in NCA Competition

TAMIU-Cheer in FL(Laredo, Tx)- Members of the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Cheerleading Squad are advancing to the NCA College National Championship Finals.  They finished first in their Division at the competition underway in Gainsville, FL this week.

The 20-member squad is competing in the Intermediate  All-Girl Division II Category and placed as first among seven finalists with a score of 85.28.

Other teams in their Division that are competing against TAMIU include the  University of Central Oklahoma, Dallas Baptist University, Brenau University, Ocean County College, Bridgewater State University and Lenoir-Rhyme University. The only other Texas squad, from San Antonio’s University of the Incarnate Word, did not advance.

The TAMIU Squad’s performance will be streamed live at TAMIU’s Judith Zaffrini Student Success Center Friday morning, beginning at 8:15 in room 101.

This is the first time the University and its squad has participated at this competition.           

The squad is sponsored by Elizabeth Torres, an outreach and retention specialist for the University.
