(Laredo, Tx)-Earlier today, Dist. I Cm. Mike Garza, joined by City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas, his fellow council colleagues, including: Dist. V Cm. Roque Vela, Jr.; Dist. II Cm. Esteban Rangel; and Dist. VII Cm. Jorge Vera welcomed Webb County Commissioner Pct. 1 Mike Montemayor; United I.S.D. Superintendant Bobby Santos, and the United I.S.D. Board of Trustees, including: Javier Montemayor, Judd Gilpin, Rick Rodriguez and LBJ High School Principal Maggie Martinez; as well as representatives from the Laredo Police Department, including Chief Ray Garner; Officer Laura Montemayor; and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #911 President David Carmona, as well as representatives from Webb County Constable Pct. 4 Harold Devally’s office, all in an effort to encourage the Laredo community to give from their pocketbook, from their hearts to LBJ student Abel Perez who was on his way to a U.I.L. Criminal Justice contest when an accident changed forever the direction of this young man’s life.
While his lifelong dream to become a police officer has been ended, he, his family, his school and the entire Laredo community consider themselves blessed that the unthinkable didn’t occur in that roll-over accident that gripped the entire city of Laredo, waiting for news on the students. Now in a San Antonio, recovering from his injuries, the medical and other expenses that the family must face are now overwhelming, and thanks to the generosity of the Laredo community, a benefit fund account has been established to help this young man and his family.
Anyone wishing to donate can do drop off their donation at any Commerce Bank and make a deposit in the account established for Perez: #2210471249.
