Suspect Captured by Laredo Police

(Laredo, Tx)- On Sunday, March 24, 2013, Police received information from a anonymous source that wanted suspect Gilbert Rodriguez was seen by the flea market area on Guadalupe St. A surveillance of the area was placed in order to capture Rodriguez. On Monday, an officer observed a suspect riding a bicycle west on Laredo St. then turning south on Jarvis Ave. The officer followed the suspect in his patrol unit and recognized Gilbert Rodriguez riding his bicycle east on Chihuahua St. The officer drove the patrol unit alongside his path and gave him verbal commands to stop. At that point, suspect Rodriguez threw his bicycle along with credit cards on the floor and began running. Officers gave chase and ran after Rodriguez, but lost him. A description of the suspect was aired out via radio and a perimeter was formed by responding officers in the area. After an intense search the suspect was not located.
The case officer filed a new police report for evading arrest and credit card abuse The bicycle and credit cards were recovered by police and taken to the LPD for evidence. The search for Gilberto Rodriguez remained active throughout the night since he has outstanding felony warrants issued for him.
At approximately 05:36am, a patrolman came across Gilbert Rodriguez by 2300 Laredo St. and apprehended him without incident. He was transported to the Laredo Police Department for booking. Police served him with two outstanding arrest warrants and the earlier incident of evading arrest. The incident surrounding the credit cards remains pending further investigation by detectives.
