GWMS Educator Named Finalist for 2013 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award

(Laredo, Tx)- Ada Joella Ballesteros, a teacher at George Washington Middle School , was surprised this morning when H-E-B representatives walked into her class and announced that she was a 2013 Finalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award. Ballesteros is one of five educators across the State who was selected as a finalist for this prestigious award. As such, she received a $1,000 check for herself and a $1,000 check for her school.
Ballesteros has been a Language Arts and Creative Writing teacher for 12 years at George Washington Middle School and currently serves as Chair of the Department. She has her Bachelor’s degree in English and History from Texas A&M International University , and she is working towards her Master’s degree in School Counseling and Guidance. She is a proud graduate of United High School .
As a finalist, Ballesteros will travel to Austin in May to compete for the statewide title and larger cash prizes. In Austin , a panel of judges will interview each teacher and the winner will be announced at a banquet on May 3.
