(Laredo, Tx)-As the eyes of the nation will be on U.S. President Barack Obama when he takes his second Oath of Office on Monday, one young Laredoan will have a once in a lifetime opportunity  witness the ceremony.  By Ray Gomez

Freshman Brianna Juarez, a ninth grade student at Martin High School and the Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts, will experience the opportunity of a lifetime when she attends the Presidential Inauguration in the nation’s capitol.

Juarez is the daughter of Ms. Noemi Mendoza and Mr. Javier Juarez.

“I am really excited to see the President.  This is a once in a lifetime experience,” Juarez said.  “I am ready to go.  I have already packed my bags with plenty of warm clothes for the snowy cold weather.

Juarez had a choice to make between attending a music camp in Florida or attending the Presidential Inauguration.  “Florida and the music camp will always be there. Attending the Inauguration and seeing the President of the United States is a historic opportunity and will only happen once.  The choice was easy,” she added.

As a sixth grader at Christen Middle School, Juarez was nominated by her teacher and attended the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington D.C.  She was also nominated as a seventh grader to attend the National Youth Leadership Conference in Boston.  As an alumna of the Junior National Young Leaders Conference, Juarez was selected to attend the Presidential Inaugural Conference.

For five days she’ll be participating in activities and events commemorating the Presidential Inauguration, which will expand her understanding of the presidential campaign, the election, and the inaugural process.

Juarez is excited and interested in learning more about the democratic process. “When I got the letter, I said “Oh my God!”  I called my dad and mom.  I was so excited.  I want to learn the democratic process.  I want to be a Senator or Congresswomen.”

On Inauguration Day itself, Briana and her fellow scholars will be in the middle of the festivities at the historic Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum on the National Mall.

Briana also expressed her appreciation to VOCAR Transportation for their generosity in funding her trip to Washington D.C.
