UISD Musicians Prove that “Practice Makes Perfect!”

(Laredo, Tx)- The United Independent School District Fine Arts Department is proud to announce that four students from Alexander High School and three students from United High School have qualified for the U.I.L. State Music Competition. The students had to try out at the highly competitive Area Auditions that were held recently in Alice , Texas which qualified them to move on to this next level of competition. Now the students are making plans to attend the Texas Music Educators Association Conference in San Antonio in February where they will perform for judges, in front of a large audience, at the Lila Cockrell Theater to present their respective musical pieces.
The State qualifiers from Alexander High School are:
Kelly Jieun Lee, 12th grade, Bb Clarinet and second year All-State
Niza Garcia, 10th grade, French Horn
Edgar De La Concha, 10th grade, French Horn
James Serna, 10th grade, Percussion
State qualifiers from United High School are
Victor Espinoza, 11th grade, Alto Saxophone
Johnny Gonzalez, 12th grade, Bass Clarinet and second year All-State
Christian Chavez, 12th grade, Trumpet and second year All-State
Jose Valenzuela and John Mallon are the Band Directors for Alexander and United High Schools , respectively.
