(Laredo, Tx)-Once again, it’s that time of year to help the less fortunate children of this community have a wonderful Christmas. “While for many, the holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year, there are countless more young children in Laredo who do not get to experience the joy and excitement of opening up presents on Christmas morning,” said Cm. Cindy Liendo Espinoza. “Since the true spirit of
Christmas is giving, the City of Laredo is proud to host the 8th Annual HOLIDAY BOWLing to for Blue Santa as he helps to make Christmas merry for needy boys and girls.”
The Laredo Police Department Community Relations Unit’s Blue Santa Charity Program, a non-profit organization that provides toys to thousands of needy children in Laredo will be hosting a charity bowling tournament this Thursday, December 13, 2012, from 5 – 9 PM at Jett Bowl North, 701 Gale Street. Entrance fee is $30 a person or $150 per team. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will be handed out, as well as top female and top male bowler. For more information on Blue Santa or the program, contact Officer Laura Montemayor at 956-285-4045 or via e-mail at
Cm. Vera echoed the sentiment, inviting the community, law enforcement agencies, media outlets, businesses, and of course, City of Laredo departments to challenge each other to help raise funds for such a worthy cause, all while having a good time.
“With nearly 2,000 children in need, this is the perfect opportunity to help ring in the Christmas spirit into our community and into your hearts, by helping Blue Santa,” stated Cm. San Miguel.
Finally, Cm. Vela was proud to be able to keep the HOLIDAY BOWL tradition alive for Blue Santa, by hosting the bowling tournament. “It’s such a great cause, I hope the community supports this event.”
The past seven years, Holiday Bowl was a flag-football game between City of Laredo employees versus the media and other community leaders.
The City holds a slight edge over their faux rivals, with a 4-3 record for the bowl. Past events have included Dallas Cowboys legends Bill Bates,
Chad Hennings and Drew Pearson making an appearance. All told, thousands of toys have been distributed by the Laredo Police Department Blue
Santa program to needy children in Laredo.
