UISD to Host Annual Parent Festival

Event to be held November 3rd at LBJ High School
(Laredo, Tx)-The “red carpet” will literally be rolled out for parents during the United Independent School District ’s Annual Parent Festival. The “Academy Award – Oscar Themed” event will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 3, at Lyndon B. Johnson High School located at 5626 Cielito Lindo Blvd. The event, which is aimed at increasing parental involvement as a crucial component to student academic success, is FREE and open to all parents of the District.
Coordinated through the Office of Federal and State Compensatory Programs, the Festival will feature a wide range of parenting sessions that will equip parents with the knowledge and skills they can use with their child throughout their time in school. Activity camps for children will also be available.
“The more parents become involved in their child’s education, the more significant the impact on their child’s academic achievement,” said Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. “Working together as a unified team, our parents and educators, will help our students to be better prepared for the demands of the 21st century,” he added.
Several community organizations will be on hand to give information on their respective programs and services. Additionally, there will be many door prizes given away to event participants.
