(Laredo, TX ) Brains. Usually, they want your brains. The zombies, that is. However, at the Zombie Book Swap for Teens, hosted by the Laredo Public Library Teen Library Advisory Board on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Laredo Public Library HEB Multi-Purpose Room, these zombies want your old books. And those teens who come in their best zombie attire can win cool prizes, too, including an original custom Halloween mask designed by South Texas Special FX artist Morbid Mike, who will be on hand to help perfect that zombie look, as well.
“Your used books and graphic novels are rising out of the graves behind your book shelves, beating down your closet doors and crawling out from under beds. We’re inviting teens to come and trade their books for ‘new to you’ books,” said Niki Acosta, who is helping to organize the books. “They can bring as many books as they would like, as long as they are books for teens. Children’s books, old textbooks, or romance novels will not be accepted
To complete the zombie apocalypse feel of the evening, Morbid Mike, a South Texas Special FX Artist and independent producer for South and Central Texas, will be at the Zombie Book Swap, as well. He founded and currently operates as the leader of Morbid Mansion Studios and Productions where he designs, sculpts, and creates monsters and props for film, television, theatre, events, and Halloween. As a professional Special FX Artist in Laredo, he serves several local Halloween productions including the Asylum Haunted House, Laredo Heritage Foundation Tomato Man Exhibit, The House of Horrors Haunted House, and many other local and state wide productions and films. He particularly enjoys doing zombie makeup for local crowds and it has been the attention-grabber at the Bazaars, South Texas Collector’s Expos, Books-A-Million Bookfairs, and other events.
