Over 15,000+ people expected to come to Laredo !
(Laredo, Tx)-The United Independent School District is proud to announce that the City of Laredo will be filled with the beautiful sounds of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments that will echo forth from 42 high school marching bands who will descend upon Laredo to compete in the U.I.L. Area G 5-A High School Marching Band Competition. The competitive event, which is expected to draw at least 15,000+ band members, Directors, parents, and spectators to the City, will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 at the Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex Field located at 5208 Santa Claudia Lane. This is the first time the District has hosted this event as it has been held every other year in San Antonio or in McAllen .
To ensure a smooth running and successful event for the thousands of visitors who will be visiting the City, UISD has been working with the City of Laredo Department Directors and Texas Department of Transportation representatives, among others, to help prepare in areas of hotel hospitality, dining, recreation, and traffic flow.
“Our goal is to make this event a spectacular one because we want to host this event again in the future,” said UISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos. Santos went on to explain that UISD has the Bill Johnson Student Activity Complex which is capable of hosting an event of this magnitude.
“This event will showcase our District facilities, as well as, highlight the City of Laredo and the many qualities we have to offer. This event will make our District and City shine and our Board of Trustees and I are grateful for the out pour of support from everyone,’ he said.
UISD has also been working with local hotel representatives to advise them of the prospective guests so proper accommodations can be made. UISD is asking local restaurants to be prepared for the large volume of guests that will be visiting our City and dining at our facilities or calling in food orders for pick up and delivery.
