Carmen Amparo Pompa named to Bilingual/ESL/Dual Language/Foreign Language Position

(Laredo, Tx)- The United Independent School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Roberto J. Santos are pleased to announce Carmen Amparo Pompa as the new Director of Bilingual Education/ESL/Dual and Foreign Language Program. The announcement was made during last night’s regular Board meeting. As the Administrator of the program, Pompa will continue to: implement procedures and coordinate the process to identify Bilingual/ESL/Dual Language/Foreign Language students at all grade levels; assist with the development and revision of Bilingual/ESL/Dual Language/Foreign Language curriculum; and develop and provide bilingual students with appropriate course work through curriculum modification and acceleration, as well as, other administrative functions.
“Ms. Pompa brings a lot of experience to the position, and I am certain she will continue to do a fine job for our students and District,” said UISD Superintendent Roberto J. Santos.
Pompa has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M International University . She is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Education through Texas A&M University in College Station . Additionally, Pompa has several certifications which include Early Childhood Education, Gifted and Talented, Reading Recovery, and School Administration.
Prior to this position, Pompa was an Early Childhood, Literacy Coordinator for the District. She has also worked as an assistant principal and classroom teacher in UISD, as well as, a university adjunct instructor.
Pompa starts her new position immediately. She replaces Ms. Emma Leza who is now the District’s Executive Director of Instructional Accountability.
