(Laredo, Tx)- The Laredo Independent School District Police Department will be conducting mock lockdown drills as a training exercise in emergency and crisis procedures. District safety officials will be performing the training exercises at several LISD campuses, Wednesday, August 8 and Thursday, August 9.
The LISD Police Department, in conjunction with the LISD Safety Department, will conduct the mock drills on Wednesday, August 8, at Christen Middle School from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.; Memorial Middle School from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.; Milton Elementary from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; and Martin High School from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Thursday, August 9, drills will be conducted at J.C. Martin Elementary School from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; Lara Academy from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; and Heights Elementary School from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The exercise will serve as a model for LISD to evaluate district safety procedures. Students from the Treviño Magnet School along with LISD athletes will participate in each of the scenerios. Representatives from the Texas School Safety Center will be in attendance to view the drills and offer feedback.
The training exercises are designed to teach appropriate responses to potential threats inside the campuses. The drills also allow the staff to identify weaknesses in emergency preparations.
“The main objective with these drills is to ensure a safe, educational environment for all our students, staff, and visitors,” stated LISD Crisis Management Officer, Victor Mora. “The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority.”
During the exercises each campus will close the gates and doors briefly. All visitors will remain outside the school gates until the drill has been completed.
