For Laredo Public Library patrons with in iPad or any other electronic tablet device wanting to utilize the book feature that has made these products so popular, you are now in luck. The Laredo Public Library is now offering e-books for check-out, er, download, straight to your tablet, for two weeks.
“This is a great feature for many patrons who may not have the time to come into the library to search for the titles they want to read,” said Maria G. Soliz, director of the Laredo Public Library. “The e-books option is just one more way the Laredo Public Library has become more accessible for the public to take advantage of all that the library has to offer.”
Patrons will need to have an active and clear library account; the library card number is the access key. Log onto the library’s website at www.laredolibrary.org, select the Overdrive feature and check out items. For those with an iPad, download the free application and do everything through the app. All other devices must be accessed through a computer. The items selected are checked through the account and then downloaded to the device. The Help feature is very user friendly and provides step by step instructions for each device.
Items are made available on the device for two weeks and because it is all automated, there are never any late fees. If one needs more time, users must wait 24 hours and then re-check the item, if it is still available.
All formats should be supported, including: iPad; ePUB; Kindle; and PDF so it should cover just about all the popular devices. There is always a possibility that there is a device that does not support one of the file formats, but most formats should be covered.
