EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on Tuesday apprehended a San Antonio woman wanted on an outstanding federal warrant for false statement during purchase of a firearm and aiding and abetting.

The apprehension occurred on July 17, 2012 at Eagle Pass International Bridge . A CBP officer referred pedestrian Juanita Arteaga, a 24-year-old female U.S. citizen from San Antonio , for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers verified Arteaga’s identity and confirmed she had an outstanding federal warrant from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and was sought by the U.S. Marshals Service for false statement during the purchase of a firearm and aiding and abetting. After confirming the warrant was active, CBP officers turned Arteaga over to the custody of Maverick County sheriff’s deputies for transport to a local jail pending extradition proceedings.

“Apprehending a fugitive wanted on a federal charge involving firearms underscores the vital role CBP officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry play in keeping our borders safe and secure,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, Port Director, Eagle Pass.
