(Laredo, TX June 19, 2012) With the return of high gas prices, El Metro announced today that it will join with other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the seventh annual National Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 21.
El Metro invites the community to “Dump the Pump” and ride free on Thursday, June 21, a day set aside to raise awareness of public transportation role in helping people save money and live better.
Since gas prices reached $4 or more this year, saving money is on everyone’s minds and public transportation is the quickest way to beat high gas prices. According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,000 annually by downsizing to one car.
El Metro will be welcoming new riders and thanking our regular riders with special services and benefits on National Dump the Pump Day with an all day event from 11 am – 4 pm at the Transit Center, 1301 Farragut, including:
– free hotdogs, popcorn and sodas
– FREE RIDES ALL DAY
– Appearance by El Metro’s mascot Felix the Bus
