LISD Summer School Starts Today, June 5

 The first day of summer classes for the Laredo Independent School District students starts today June 5, at all LISD campuses.  Students will be enrolled in classes for credit, promotion, or enrichment.

 The goal of the Summer School Program is to offer a wide range of educational experiences needed by the greatest number of LISD students to fulfill their unique education needs, talents, and interests.

 LISD‘s 20 elementary campuses will be offering a variety of classes, camps, and academies this summer. Students can sign-up for the following programs: Extended Year Retention Program for promotion, fifth grade Math/Science Camp, Nature Enrichment Camp, Primary Reading/Writing Academy, Intermediate Reading/Writing Academy, Nutrition/Fit Camp, and Technology Camp. Classes will be scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

 Summer classes for middle school students will be available at Christen, Lamar, Cigarroa, and Memorial Middle Schools. Middle school students can enroll in the following programs: Learning with Gusto/American Reading, Science Academy, Reading/Writing Camp College Readiness Camp, Nature Camp, Middle School Promotion Program. Classes will be scheduled from 8:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The Apple Academy will also be available at Lamar Middle School from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Summer classes for elementary and middle school students will end on Monday, June 28.

Summer classes for high school students will be available at Early College High School at Texas A&M International University, Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa High Schools. Students can register for the following programs: End of Course (EOC), Learning with Gusto/Language Refinement, Credit Recovery, EOC Camps in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, Credit Acceleration, SAT Prep Camp, Leadership Academy, Summer Strength and Conditioning, AP Student Camp, and THEA Camp. Classes will be scheduled from 8:00a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. The Apple Academy will also be available at Nixon High School from 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please contact your campus for Camp dates and times.

 The LISD Child Nutrition Program will be offering breakfast and lunch meals to students at all campuses. The summer feeding program is free to all children 18 andyounger.  Contact 211 for more information regarding feeding sites. The LISD Transportation Department will be sending out buses to transport students that reside within an area that is designated a hazardous route.
