Laredo Heat Looking to Get Back in Action, Heading to Midland, Austin

(Laredo, Tx)- After getting some much needed rest after a long pre-season campaign and three regular season games plus two U.S. Open Cup Matches, the Laredo Heat (2 – 1 – 0, 6 points) are back in Premier Development League (PDL) action this weekend with matches versus the West Texas (Midland) Sockers (1 – 2 – 2, 5 points) and the Mid-South Division leaders, the Austin Aztex (4 – 1 – 2, 14 points).

Laredo is hoping that the time off has helped heal several players who got a little banged up during the month on May. These two games should give Coach Fernando Hernandez a good indication of their progress.

First up for the Heat is a trip to Midland where they will take on the West Texas Sockers at Grande Communication Stadium on Thursday, June 7th. Kick-off for this match is set for 8:00 PM.

West Texas is always a formidable foe for Laredo and most especially at home. This will be the first meeting between the clubs this season and if scouting reports are any indication, West Texas will once again come out to play with everything they have and the Heat must be ready with their A game from the get go.

After playing in Midland, the Heat will travel to Austin to take on the expansion Aztex at House Park on Saturday, June 9th.

“The way West Texas plays at home year in and year out, I certainly hope our boys are ready to play and then travelling to Austin to play the division leaders will prove to be a tough weekend for us”, said Heat General Manager J.J, Vela.

“As always, our coaching staff and players know what lays ahead for them starting this weekend, after June is complete, they will have nine games under their belt”.

Vela concluded, “The way both of our opponents have started league play, I am hoping to be able to get out of both venues with some road points but it will not be easy and versus Austin, who have outscored their opponents 22 – 5 in seven games, our goal will even be tougher as they have been hitting on all cylinders since day one”.
