TAMIU Hosts ‘Secrets to Success: Young Women’s Conference’ April 3

A group of 150 freshmen girls from Laredo’s two school districts as well asmSt. Augustine and Harmony Academy of Science will participate in a young women’s conference at Texas A&M International University in April. “Secrets to Success: Young Women’s Conference,” is Tuesday, April 3 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:20 p.m. and is organized by TAMIU and the City of Laredo, Laredo Commission for Women.
Event presenters include Mindy Casso, KGNS-TV news anchor; Veronica Cantú, director of public relations for United Independent School District; and Dr. Celina Oliveira-Montoya, owner of Oliveira Audiology & Hearing Center, P.L.L.C.
Scheiby Fisher, TAMIU associate director of Recruitment and School Relations, said that the Conference encourages students to pursue higher education and instill in them the importance of stewardship, community service and self-respect.
“The Conference will also inform participants about the problems faced by women today,” she explained, “It’s goal is to also encourage them to succeed and pursue their goals.” In addition to hearing the presenters, the students will also learn dining etiquette and see a career fashion show, Fisher explained.
