This week, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas has made several important proclamations this week, highlighting the important work of some local organizations.
Salinas, along with Webb County Judge Danny Valdez, welcomed the Children’s Advocacy Center and SCAN to City Hall, to make two important proclamations: Sexual Abuse Awareness and Prevention and Child Abuse Awareness Month.
Joining Mayor Salinas were students from Cigarroa High School who are ambassadors to their peers to help them become aware of dating and sexual abuse problems in teenagers, Judge Valdez, Laredo I.S.D. School Superintendent Dr. Nelson and Sylvia Bruni, Exec. Dir., Children’s Advocacy Center, to encourage Laredoans to increase their awareness and work to prevent sexual assault in the community.
Immediately following the proclamation, Mayor Salinas and Judge Valdez welcomed Laredo Assistant Police Chief Gabriel Martinez; Officer J. Tovar; Officer Laura Montemayor; Dr. Nelson; Sylvia Bruni; Judge Oscar Hale; and Alex Meyer, United I.S.D. Communication Specialist, to encourage Laredo parents to raise their children in safe, nurturing environments, as well as supporting local professionals dedicated to meeting the needs of child abuse victims.
Mayor Salinas welcomed students and teachers from the Laredo Community College’s Occupational Therapy program, as well as several agencies, Laredo I.S.D. and United I.S.D. professionals who provide occupational therapy in Laredo, highlighting that the profession of occupational therapy makes valuable contributions in helping people “Live Life to its Fullest” after an illness or injury.
