Successful event repeats this Saturday by popular demand

(Laredo, Tx)-  Repeating last weekend’s first-ever Repair-and-Ride Clinic, Ciclo-mania owner, Bernie Chapa and the Laredo Bicycling Association will once again host the clinic this Saturday, March 25 from 3-to-6, at Shiloh Trails, located at the intersection of Shiloh and Livingston.  Cyclists can enjoy the trail ride during that time, or immediately following at 6:30 p.m.

The event – free to the public – will provide training and free parts to owners of non-functioning bicycles so that they could participate in this and future trail rides.

Ciclo-Mania and members of various riding clubs will serve as volunteer bicycle mechanics.  The clinics – including free tubes, spokes and basic parts – are paid for by a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Community Outdoor Outreach Program grant to the Big River Foundation and are co-sponsored by the City of Laredo and District VI Council Member Charlie San Miguel.

“Often times, we are surrounded by beauty and don’t realize it,” said Cm. San Miguel.  “How many times have people driven along Shiloh and not realized the precious treasure of nature that is right here in our backyard?  I encourage everyone to come out, get a little exercise and come appreciate what we have right here in North Laredo,” he concluded.

This week’s Repair-and-Ride will draw attention to the Shiloh Trails, a 5-mile trail network built by local volunteers that not only highlights the unique beauty of the South Texas Brush Country, but also, is a challenging enough bike trail for novices and experts alike.  The trails weave through thick stands of native habitat on either side of Upper Manadas Creek.  A thick canopy of mesquite and hackberry block the sun and the sound of traffic.  Song birds call from the heavy cover.

“It’s fun. It’s free. All you need is a broke-down bike and willingness to learn to fix it,” said Eric Ellman of the Big River Foundation.

The bike repair clinic is at Ciclo-mania from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday.  Volunteers will be on hand, meanwhile at Shiloh Trails to escort you on your ride as soon as your bike is fixed.  All ages welcome. For more details, call Bernie at Ciclo-Mania, (956) 744-8250.
