ICE Presents Plaque to Mayor Salinas, City of Laredo for Honoring Fallen Agent

 (Washington D.C.   At this year’s annual Laredo Day Reception in Washington, D.C., John Morton, the Director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement presented  a memorial plaque to City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas to thank him for his unwavering support of both ICE, and in particular, the response by Mayor Salinas and the City of Laredo to honor the memory of Homeland Security Institute Special Agent and Laredo resident Jaime Zapata. 

 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Special Agent Jaime Zapata was shot and killed in the line of duty February 15, 2011.  The City of Laredo has renamed a portion of a major state highway maintained by the City of Laredo as the Jaime Zapata Memorial Highway,  and held a special ceremony to commemorate this action.

 The plaque includes a photo of Agent Zapata, an ICE badge, two ICE “Thank you” coins and an inscription that reads:
