LAREDO, Texas – This year’s Taste of Laredo has added international beer and wine tasting to be sampled among the array of delicious food options on February 7, 2012 at the Laredo Energy Arena (LEA). Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with the festivities following immediately after at 7 p.m.

This is a first for the Taste of Laredo, which is a major celebration within the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association festivities.

For a small additional fee, patrons can elect to taste an international variety of beer and wine options.

“We are adding more excitement to this ever-popular event,” said Xavier Villalon, general manager for the SMG-managed Laredo Energy Arena.

“In addition to great food, music and fun, local beer and wine distributors are partnering up with us to expose patrons to international flavors,” he added.

Austin’s premier 80s music cover band, The Space Rockers, will provide musical entertainment during the event. Come join Captain Cosmos, Probe, Thunderstick, Stinger and Neuron, along with their dynamic spaceship, on an unforgettable voyage that will free your spirit and move your body on the dance floor.

In addition to the new beer and wine tasting event, the Taste of Laredo will again feature a chef competition, a pizza-eating contest sponsored by Hungry Howie’s Pizza and a blazing wing eating contest sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings that will be open to all who wish to compete.

Tickets for this event will go on sale Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations including the LEA box office, select H-E-B stores, online at ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone at 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for children 12 years or under.

The Taste of Laredo has been part of the WBCA since 1985 and attracts thousands of visitors every year.  Restaurants, bartenders, and chefs interested in participating in this event may contact Javier Solis, Jr. at (956) 523-6598.
