(Laredo, TX )  The City of Laredo, the Laredo Development Foundation, and the Laredo Chamber of Commerce will be co-hosting the Eagle Ford Shale Job and Vendor Fair on Friday, January 13, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Laredo Energy Arena, located at 6700 Arena Boulevard.  The event is being organized in cooperation with U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar, Texas House Representative Richard Raymond, the Eagle Ford Shale Consortium as well as its partners, Texas A&M International University, the Laredo Community College, Texas Workforce Commission, America’s Natural Gas Alliance, and Workforce Solutions for South Texas.

The primary focus of this event is to connect job seekers from the Laredo area and the surrounding region with drilling and support service companies looking for quality skilled employees.  There will be areas designated for private interviews, computers for on-line applications, and an exhibition area for companies to promote available job opportunities. In addition to connecting employers and job seekers, the conference will also connect businesses and service providers.

“South Texas has long been a hotbed for oil and gas exploration and over the years, our city of Laredo has benefitted from this industry, from the oil and gas companies who own the wells, to drilling, fracking, and other companies that service this business,” said City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas.  “We have always welcomed these companies into Laredo because they were putting our neighbors to work: to provide for their families; buy food and other necessities at our stores; frequent our restaurants; and even enjoy all of the wonderful things our city has to offer.  More importantly, we recognized the valuable service they were providing to our city and even beyond, including the state and nation.”

Mayor Salinas continued:  “This job fair is to help these companies find the best people that will help put people in our area to work in this growing and important industry for the entire state of Texas.   I look forward to many of these companies confirming their participation in this significant first step to get people working, while growing a sector of business that will positively impact us all.”

“A job and vendor fair tailored to the booming energy industry in South Texas will allow for business opportunities and job growth in the City of Laredo,” Congressman Cuellar said. “I thank the City of Laredo and other partners involved in the upcoming fair– our joint collaborative efforts will assist job seekers, allow local businesses to showcase products and services and will further Laredo and Webb County’s economic development.”
