Over 2,000 Laredo Independent School District high school students will be taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) on Wednesday, October 12. Sophomores and Juniors from Martin, Nixon, and Cigarroa ant the Early College High Schools will be taking the test at no cost to the students.
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Since Laredo ISD is a participant of the Texas College Preparation Program (TCPP), the exam is being offered for free to LISD students who signed up to take the exam at their respective campuses.
The test provides 10th grade students with a firsthand practice in preparation for the SAT exam and 11th grade students with the opportunity to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship programs. It also gives students a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools. The exam measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills.
High school campus administration and teachers have been preparing students in the classroom by providing them reviewing skills in reading, writing, and math and have also hosted weekly review sessions.
