LISD employees to attend Anti-Bullying Conference

 All LISD faculty, staff, and administration will attend an Anti-Bullying Conference toda, at the Laredo Civic Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. The conference will focus on “Rachel’s Challenge” a nationwide school outreach program for the prevention of teen violence. The conferences main presenter will be Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott.

 Rachel Joy Scott was the first victim of the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999. She has since been the subject of several books and is the inspiration for Rachel’s Challenge based on her life and writings.

 All secondary faculty and staff, and LISD administrative departments will attend the morning session from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All elementary faculty and staff will attend the afternoon session from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 Also during the conference, the LISD Employee Flu Shot Clinic will be held in the Civic Center meeting rooms beginning at 7:30 a.m. Employees who are insured by Aetna will have the opportunity to get their flu shots free of charge. If they don’t have Aetna insurance, they can still get the vaccine at a low cost.

 For the free vaccine, employees will need to bring their ID card and their Aetna Insurance card or other proof of insurance. Non-insured employees will only pay $27 for their flu shot. Both the FluMist (intranasal) and Fluzone (injectable) will be available.

 A mini-health fair will also be available to all employees with a variety of free and reasonably priced screenings from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The health fair is sponsored by HEB, the Kraft Corporation, and Novo Nordisk.
