Yesterday evening, City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas and the Laredo City Council recognized some very special people in our community for their contributions to improve and promote our great city.
Father Tom Juarez of San Luis Rey Church, was recognized for his participation and support of City of Laredo events these past 10 years, especially in light of his upcoming transfer to Los Angeles, California.
The Laredo PONY 9U Mustang All-Stars baseball team was recognized for their accomplishments in winning the South Region Zone Tournament in North Richland Hills, Texas last week, representing and promoting the City of Laredo with their victory.
Pat Anderson, of Overlooked Books; Ann Mente, Kelly Simms; Maria G. Soliz, director; and Pam Burrell of the Laredo Public Library invited the community and the City of Laredo to attend the Laredo Book Festival, a celebration of Texas and local authors and illustrators, which will feature panels, workshops, readings and sales of books by these authors. The event, which is free and open to the public, will have something for everyone in the family. The Laredo Book Festival is taking place on Sat., Aug. 13, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Laredo Public Library.
