LAREDO, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry recently apprehended an Illinois man wanted on an outstanding warrant for predatory sexual assault.  The apprehension occurred on Aug. 16, 2011 at the Gateway to the Americas Bridge pedestrian walkway. A CBP officer referred pedestrian Gerardo Castro, a 43-year-old male Mexican citizen from Summit , Ill. for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers verified Castro’s identity and confirmed he had an outstanding state warrant from Cook County , Summit , Ill. for predatory sexual assault. After confirming the warrant was active, CBP officers turned Castro over to the custody of Webb County sheriff’s deputies for transport to a local jail pending extradition proceedings.

“Our frontline CBP officers maintained their vigilance and apprehended a man wanted on an outstanding warrant for a crime of a sexual nature,” said Sidney Aki, CBP Port Director, Laredo . “Keeping our borders secure is a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week job for CBP and this apprehension underscores CBP’s unwavering commitment to that border security mission.”
