EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry seized a mixed narcotics load containing both cocaine and methamphetamine valued at $688,000 from a vehicle driven by a local man.
The seizure occurred on Aug. 15, 2011 at Eagle Pass Bridge I. A CBP officer referred a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup driven by a 39-year-old male U.S. citizen from Eagle Pass for a secondary examination. During the examination, CBP officers discovered anomalies in the vehicle floor. CBP officers conducted an intensive examination of the floor and discovered 10 packages containing a total of 20 pounds of alleged cocaine and nearly three pounds of alleged methamphetamine. The narcotics have a combined estimated street value of $688,000.
CBP officers turned the driver over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation and seized the narcotics and the vehicle.
“This combination load of narcotics underscores the seriousness of the narcotics threat our frontline officers face on a daily basis,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass. “Our officers employed their inspectional skills, training and high tech tools to uncover this significant load and preventing it from going any further.”
