Hit and Run Driver Gets Maximum 10Yr Sentence

Courtesy Monica Garcia,

The Office of District Attorney Isidro R. Alaniz reports that the driver of the vehicle that severely injured a female pedestrian during the early morning hours of May 16, 2009 has been sentenced to ten years in prison.

On Monday, the Honorable Judge Joe Lopez sentenced Jose Luis Flores to the maximum penalty of ten years for the charge of Accident Involving Injury or Death.

A female pedestrian was struck by an SUV as she walked on the shoulder of Zapata Highway during the early morning hours of May 16, 2009.  At approximately the same time that the accident was reported to 911, a call to Laredo Police was also made by a Good Samaritan who reported a reckless driver.  Within hours, the female victim was airlifted to San Antonio with serious injuries and Laredo Police located Flores and arrested him for the hit and run.

Prosecutor Edward A. Nolen, who handled the plea negotiations, expressed his gratitude to the Laredo Police Department.  He stated that “the investigation and quick response of officers, specifically those on the scene, led to the identification and arrest of the driver of the vehicle”.
