City of Laredo Stresses Security, Low Crime Rate

Courtesy Xochitl Mora,

(Laredo, TX )  On Saturday, July 2, the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a release, warning U.S. travelers of possible dangers in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico over the Fourth of July weekend and to avoid travel in the area.  The release also stated “there is no indication that these cartel-related criminal activities will occur in Texas…,” and the City of Laredo wants to assure travelers from throughout the great state of Texas that Laredo, Texas remains a safe, secure, vibrant city that offers a truly unique bilingual, bicultural experience for any traveler looking for a great authentic Mexican experience – food, artifacts, jewelry, music, culture, ambiance and more – all while in the safety and comfort of Laredo, Texas, USA.

“Laredo is actually safer than probably most major cities throughout Texas, certainly a lot safer than people think it is,” said City of Laredo Mayor Raul G. Salinas.

In fact, the most recent Texas Department of Public Safety Uniform Crime Report ranks Laredo as #1 in reduction of crime among 34 cities with a population of one hundred thousand or more, for reducing its crime rate – already lower than most cities – by 22%, including significant drops in violent crimes, property and auto-theft crimes.

“Thanks to the hard work of the Laredo Police Department and its strong partnerships with state and federal law enforcement agencies in the community, Laredo is actually experiencing plunging crime rates.  Come see for yourself; you will be welcomed with open arms and a hearty ¡bienvenido!”
