EAGLE PASS, TEXAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry this weekend stopped an alleged attempt by a Mexican citizen to enter the U.S. using a U.S. passport card that belonged to someone else.  The incident occurred on July 1 at Eagle Pass Bridge I. A 22-year-old Mexican citizen from Cuauhtemoc , Chihuahua , Mexico allegedly applied for admission at the port as a U.S. citizen and presented a U.S. passport card as proof of identity and citizenship. A CBP officer referred the man to secondary inspection. After conducting further examination, CBP officers discovered that the man is in fact a Mexican citizen and the U.S passport card belongs to someone else.

CBP officers processed the man for alleged violations of federal immigration law.

“Our discerning front line CBP officers took a closer look and discovered an alleged impostor to a U.S. passport card. Immigration violations involving U.S. passport cards, newer documents that have been issued since July 2008, are not nearly as common at the port as with laser visas and resident alien cards. The interception reflects well on the officer’s training and experience,” said Cynthia O. Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Eagle Pass.
